The pink city
Picking rose petals
In May, Aleppo, the white city, would take on beautiful shades of pink . The rose harvest would arrive in the early morning, when the air is still cool and the petals were the most fragrant. In front of every market, and at the corner of every street, heaps of roses were gathered in soft piles, with petals waiting to be picked and turned into rose water, syrup, and jam.
From opened kitchen windows the delicate and subtle scent of roses would drift and fill the air. The entire city seemed to glow with the most beautiful pink color.
